On the 4th of October 2016, Haiti was hit by Hurricane Matthew - one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit the area in nearly a decade. The gale force winds ripped the roofs off of homes, uprooted trees and brought down power lines all over including in the Nippes area, where many Shia Muslims are based.
The category four hurricane with winds of 145mph (230km/h) has estimated to have killed 900 people and left 1.4 million in desperate need of humanitarian aid. Hurricane victims in Haiti urgently need our help and The World Federation is appealing to community members to support the ‘Help Haiti Appeal’ so that we can deliver food rations such as rice, beans, corn and flour to families as well as assist in rebuilding homes that were damaged by the storm which has displaced so many families.
