Volunteering as an approach is built around and altruistic mindset of giving without any financial gain. This mindset, whilst quite basic as an Islamic approach, is one that is not necessarily inculcated within our children’s’ upbringing. The spirit of giving is usually at best confined to within the home or at best with the family. Why did this spirit of wanting to serve to permeate in our very pores in the past and not so to that degree now? Read more here.
Imagine brushing your teeth every morning with dirty and polluted water. Just the thought of this makes our stomachs turn. This is the reality for thousands of families living across Kenya.
The cost of building one well in Kenya is £1,150 GBP / $1,750 USD / $2,300 CAD. This amounts to only £3 GBP / $5 USD / $6 CAD a day. Your donation, great or small will support the construction of urgently needed water wells and ensure that families have easy access to clean and safe water.
Since the launch of the MUHARRAM 1437 - ALI ASGHAR WATER APPEAL to build 40 water wells in 40 days in the deprived areas of Kenya and Syria, 13 wells have been sponsored already. We need your help to build another 27 wells which are desperately needed. When you sponsor a full well, we will place a personalized plaque next to your completed well and send you a report and photographs as well.
Last week, our agent in Kenya wrote to us and said:
“Western Kenya is a region where majority of the population has been experiencing shortage of water supply. Families have been surviving by fetching water from the lakes and creating shallow dams to collect rain water.
Unfortunately, as this is untreated water, it is dangerous and thus unsuitable for human use. Water collected in the dams is used by animals and sadly, people in these areas make use of the same dirty water to drink, cook as well as wash clothes.
This has resulted in the outbreak of diseases such as Cholera leading to many deaths, especially of children who are not strong enough to withstand such diseases.
Finding clean water is difficult, with families having to cross distances of up to ten kilometers on foot. They then have to pay a small fee to access water supply. This however becomes a problem for expectant mothers and the elderly who cannot walk such a distance, as well as those that cannot afford to pay the fee.
Most of these families consist of six or seven members; this means they need more than forty liters of water per day. This is a big challenge for them, and if we can build them wells in their own villages, then this will be a great relief for them, and greatly improve their quality of life, insha, Allah.
We want to build wells in the most affected areas which are Kakamega, Mumias, Busia, Bungoma, Malakisi and Angurai. In these areas, we have groups of Muslims and their non-Muslim neighbours who can benefit from the wells.
We pray to the Almighty to bless us with good health and strong will, and enable us to serve his creation.”
