Ramadhan Relief 1435: Ramadhan in Mosul – Iraq

Ramadhan Relief in Iraq has started where food baskets have been prepared and are being distributed to families. The World Federation has sent a member of its own team to Iraq to assist with Ramadhan Relief efforts as well as to assess the overall humanitarian needs in the region. This week, our team member wrote to us about ‘Ramadhan in Mosul’.  Here is what he had to say:

“Ramadan in Iraq is beautiful. The spirit of Ramadhan is alive in this country, where helping each other is done with love and kindness. This was the atmosphere in the Mosul food distribution centre.  The volunteers treated all those who came to receive food parcels with respect and love. The words, 'O Allah help those who are in need' and 'bless our Ummah' are not simply uttered,  but acted upon. It is truly humbling to see and be a part of this community spirit during this holy month.

People come with their children and speak of their life and experiences. They live simply and humbly, yet do not complain. It reminds me of the saying that ‘charity is not from us but a blessing from Allah who has given us the opportunity to give in charity’.  The blessings of this charity are endless, in this life and in the next, they multiply in this wonderful month and bring us closer to Him. They are acts that purify and fulfil us, taking away the dust from our souls that have become hardened and empty. Charity is lifesaving, not simply for the recipient but for the donor. It is an act that is loved by Him, that beautifies us and brings us closer to Allah.

As I look around today, I know with firm faith that it is with the continued donations from you all that the food distribution centres are active. It is also heartwarming to know that in this part of the world our brothers and sisters have provisions for this hot Ramadhan. Please continue your donations and help our brothers and sisters. Let no child, woman or man feel hunger at iftaar time or go to bed without their thirst from their fast being quenched.

Let this month not go without giving as much as you can towards charity and towards the welfare of those in need. Thank you from Iraq.”
