Since the days of Marhum Mulla Asgharali M.M. Jaffer, the Ramadhan Relief Fund (RRF) has been providing food and other support to thousands of families struggling with poverty during the month of Ramadhan.
The book, ‘The Light behind the Veil’, is a tribute to the principles upheld by Bibi Zainab (as) by The World Federation’s Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme. One of her greatest hallmarks was generosity and the beautiful and gentle way she spread kindness to others.
The chapter on ‘Charity’ describes Bibi Zainab (as) as “not an ordinary person. Whilst still in Kufa before her departure to Damascus, the captives were held in a chamber close to Masjid-e-Kufa. They were mistreated and the only food they received was a loaf of bread each. Instead of eating her loaf, Bibi Zainab (as) would distribute it to the children in her camp while she remained hungry.
This idea of giving away to others what you possess and keeping for yourselves the mere basic necessities was the reason for the revelation of the following verses from the Holy Qur’an:
“They fulfill their vows and fear a day whose ill will be widespread. They give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner (saying), ‘We feed you only for the sake of Allah. We do not want any reward from you nor any thanks. Indeed we fear from our Lord a day, frowning and fateful.’ So Allah saved them from the ills of that day, and granted them freshness and joy.” (76:7-11)”
SPONSOR A HUNGRY CHILD LIKE MAYASA
Follow the example of Bibi Zainab (as) by making a donation to the Fill My Cup Appeal to provide hot porridge breakfasts to 3,853 students across 14 schools and 15 madaris in Kenya. The more children you can sponsor, the greater the impact this program will have. Can we count on you?
Masoud is 5 years old. He is in Kindergarten and attends one of 14 schools where children receive a hot porridge breakfast daily. Like Salim and Mayasa, Masoud comes from a low-income household and benefits from this breakfast program. Since he joined the program, Masoud is active and happy all the time and enjoys coming to school regularly. His teachers have noted that he is more attentive in class and learns better.
The cost of sponsoring a child’s breakfast meal is as follows:
