‘Fill My Cup’ Appeal: Nairobi Jaffery Academy raises $2,500 USD in 2nd Annual fundraising event for children

Nairobi Jaffery Academy is a private co-educational school in Nairobi, Kenya which provides excellence in education designed to meet the needs of individual students within a stimulating learning environment. Learners at the Academy range in age from 2 to 18, starting in Pre-Kindergarten to High Schoo

In addition to its academic goals, the school thrives to nurture the social and emotional needs of its students and one of the ways it has achieved this balance is by organising an annual fundraising event which the students can partake in. This event is an outreach project arranged by the students to help deserving children living in poverty in Kenya.

In 2012, Nairobi Jaffery Academy initiated a yearly fundraising fair to teach the students first-hand about empathy, compassion and helping others. By selecting The World Federation’s ‘Fill My Cup’ program as the charity of their choice, the students are realizing that by working together for a common and worthy cause, they have the power to make a positive difference in the lives of children who arrive at school hungry due to poverty.

In 2013, the theme of the annual fundraising event was “Children in Action”, where weekly activities were planned by a task force comprising staff members and leaders of the Student Council. These activities included bake sales, face painting, sponsorship forms and shoe shine shops.

Vice Chairman of Nairobi Jaffery Academy Education Board, Husein bhai Rashid said:  “We received overwhelming support from our dear students; I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents for encouraging them both financially and materially.”

On 2nd and 3rd December 2013, the school held its grand 2-day finale of the ‘2013 Fill My Cup Fundraising Event’ where all students:

  • Came to school adorned in their cultural garments and made a contribution of 50 Kenyan Shillings towards the appeal; and

  • Participated in a ‘Fun Day’ which included enjoyable activities such as horseback riding, swimming, trampoline, sponge throws, zog balls, food stalls and ice cream sales. The dress code for ‘Fun Day’ was ‘sportswear’.

Thanks to the excellent efforts of the entire school, Nairobi Jaffery Academy raised $2,500 USD (Kshs. 220,000/) for The World Federation’s ‘Fill My Cup’ Program.

The Secretary General of The World Federation, Shan-E-Abbas Hassam expressed:  “I am truly amazed and inspired by the resolve and commitment demonstrated by the students and staff of Nairobi Jaffery Academy in pooling together to benefit so many deserving children in Kenya. Not only have they ensured that these students will have a hot nutritious breakfast to start their day with, but more importantly, they have exhibited the true spirit of humanity by showing kindness and mercy towards other people. On behalf of The World Federation, I am pleased to accept this generous donation from Nairobi Jaffery Academy. I wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of the students, staff and parents for their incredible support.  May Allah (swt) accept your kindness and give you more opportunities to serve Him.”
