N2K WALK 2014: This Arba’een, raise funds for the displaced people of Iraq

In commemoration of Arba’een (40th day after the events of Karbala), pilgrims from around the world travel to Iraq to take part in the annual 3-day walk from Najaf to Karbala. In addition to its spiritual merit, many individuals and groups augment this experience by walking this 80km road to raise funds in the name of Imam Husayn (as) and the martyrs of Karbala in support of a worthy cause. This year, The World Federation is pleased to launch its second annual N2K WALK 2014 fundraising campaign and is inviting pilgrims who are planning to trek from Najaf to Karbala to raise money for its IRAQ RELIEF FUND to support displaced families in Iraq.

WHAT IS THE IRAQ RELIEF FUND?

Over 1.8 million people are displaced within Iraq; there are about 500,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Southern Iraq alone. The World Federation has identified 1,000 Iraqi families (approximately 10,000 Internally Displaced Persons) who are in urgent need of emergency aid. These families were forced out of their homes, communities and cities with only the clothes on their backs. Today, many of them have taken shelter in temporary dwellings along the road from Najaf to Karbala in search of security and relief.

The World Federation’s IRAQ RELIEF FUND aims to provide short, medium and long term support to displaced families in Iraq.  Our immediate initiative is to provide care for 1,000 displaced families who have found refuge in Najaf, Karbala and areas South of Iraq by gifting them with a ‘Welcome Package’.  Each package will include:

  • Food rations
  • Water
  • Blankets
  • Hygiene products

WHO ARE SOME OF THE BENEFICIARY FAMILIES?
