After an all-nighter and early morning Executive Council meeting, councillors got an opportunity to see how early fajr salaat was recited in Sweden. By 11 am on Sunday 1st June, all councilors were ready to go and see for themselves the venue of Camp CoEJ in Sweden.
The remaining 28 Councillors were buzzing with unbound energy and unbridled enthusiasm, with three mini buses eagerly waiting to take the councilors to Karso Gardens – the camp site. All the councilors had heard about the camp. They had seen photos of it. But never had they physically seen it. This was their chance to observe firsthand what the children of the community would be experiencing in August.
The ethos of the camp is Towards Excellence, Personal, Educational, Spiritual, and Physical. Achieving excellence requires preparation, and preparations for the camp are well under way, with Sis Waheeda Rahim and Br. Muhsin Dharamsi heading the admin team.
“Alhamdulillah the camp preparations are going well. The team is busy making arrangements in partnership with the Swedish links to ensure the campers get the most out of the Camp CoEJ experience.” – Sis. Waheeda Rahim.
Camp CoEJ aims to give participants a memorable experience, whilst enabling them to develop themselves in the four aspects. The experience is made even more memorable through the long-lasting friendships which will be forged. The camp will combine various elements ranging from interactive workshops, debates, and daily classes to team building exercises, sports, and fun outings, all within an Islamic environment.
Following the tour of the camp site, the Councillors visited the town centre where they were able to admire the beautiful views and enjoy the great weather.
Dr. Husein Jiwa remarked “the hospitality from our community members in Sweden was incredible. The trip to the venue for Camp CoEJ was an excellent opportunity to understand the opportunities available for the campers, as well as recognise the amount of hard work and commitment being made by the Camp CoEJ organising team. The CoEJ Office Bearers are delighted that this programme has been restarted and are keen to support where needed. We wish the team every success.”
