On a recent visit to France and Portugal, the WF President, Dr. Asgarali Moledina, and COEJ President, Alhaj Hussein Jiwa met with the jamaats in Paris and Lisbon to learn more about the workings and circumstances of these communities.

During their stay in Paris, the presidents had a chance to hear about the progress within the jamaat in various areas including women participation, madrasa, tableegh, education, technological advancements and community services.

In Lisbon, they met with Br. Bachir Remtulla, who is the current president of the local community there.  They were honoured to attend the commemoration of the 20th of Shuhadaa of Karbala at premises of the jamaat.

Br. Remtulla confirmed that the Lisbon jamaat was a member of the World Federation of KSIMC from its inception, but had not yet re-joined under COEJ as per the new constitutional establishment of regions.

The World Federation expressed eagerness to have Lisbon reintegrate into The WF body through COEJ so that they could provide any assistance the Shia community in Portugal may require.  They also had a chance to speak about challenging issues, including the need for a regular Tarbiyah program for children.  COEJ promised to help on this front.

Mr. Remtulla and his son promised to attend the next COEJ meeting in Paris and take steps towards re-establishing ties and communication with the larger Shia community.

The need for such relationships cannot be emphasized enough.  It is only through strong connections that we can be available to serve each other as Muslims brothers and sisters, a prime example being the case of Marhoom Dilawar G. Damani who passed away in Dubai while on a visit.

It was selfless individuals like br. Ghulam Bhai Virji and br. Hassan Ali Nathwani, who were able to step in and help the family sort out the complicated medical, legal and funeral procedures.   The community as a whole provided consolation and moral support to Marhoom Dilawar’s family who flew in from Kutch.

In times of turmoil and peace, tragedy and joy, it is only the bonds of brotherhood that can hold us together as an ummah.

Please recite a surah al-Faatiha for Marhoom Dilawar.
