Taking The Lead

April has been a busy month for us in India where we have worked in partnership with India Federation on various programs to promote activities geared towards the betterment of the youth. Following the initial Youth Development Program, we held a Mentor Training Program as the next step for those who had already taken part in either our Leadership or Youth Development Programs.

The MTP, which was held over two days - the 22nd and 23rd of April 2017 - at Haji Nazarali Imambargah, Kurla, Mumbai was attended by 6 boys and 8 girls.

Facilitator, Shabbir Khalfan and his co-facilitator, Asad Virani covered essential topics such as Questioning skills, Mentoring skills, Teamwork, Understanding Behaviour and Feedback skills.  These are important aspects of mentorship and will be of great use to the youth not just within their capacity as future mentors, but also in their daily interaction with society.

Each participant was also given a personal copy of the Mentor Development Program Handbook published by The Capacity Building Group, led by Dr. Akber Mohammedali. This handbook was aimed at helping them take note of and reflect on the course content.

Naghma Khoja, who attended the session was effusive in her positive feedback, saying:

"It was a practical and fantastic learning experience...Before the programme, I was sceptical about it but now I wish it would have been spread across many more days and longer sessions within each day. During these days there was only one thing that bothered me - the fact that I couldn't stop time! Everyone was very supportive and encouraging. I met several members of my community who hold respectable positions and it has been a great socialising place as well. There are some sisters with whom I have developed a mutual soul-to-soul connection and I am indebted to the KSI Jamaat and The World Federation for creating such platforms where we can learn and grow together!"
