1. Curriculum Development
2. Teacher Development
3. Learning Resources

In 2015, we have worked with the regional bodies on improving each of these areas to ensure that our madrasah students are taught in the most effective way.
Below are highlights of the work that has been done in 2015:
Curriculum Development
Creating a lesson requires a great deal of work, as the diagram above shows. This is to make sure the lesson is of the highest quality before putting it into use.
There are 8 modules in total, some of which have over 60 lessons. This is a long process but one in which we made great strides in 2015. By the end of December, we had either completed or were working on 243 lessons.
Out of the 8 modules, three will be completed by the end of March 2016 and the rest completed by the end of Summer 2016 inshAllah.
Teacher Development
Teacher development was an area of particular focus last year. Whilst developing lessons is important, developing the skills of teachers delivering the lessons is also vital.
MCE held numerous teacher training and development sessions throughout the year. Some of these included:
- Teacher Skills Programme (you can read feedback from these sessions here)
- Teacher Skills & Tools Programme
- Neuro-Psychology of Learning Programme (you can read more about this here)
- Neuro-Psychology of Learning: Train the Trainer Programme
- Spiritual Development Programme
In 2015, we held a total of 34 sessions across the five categories above, which involved a total of 418 participants across CoEJ, AFED and NASIMCO.
These sessions have been described by some participants as ‘an overdue step in the right direction - it will definitely help to raise the bar in the quality of teachers and teaching styles at madrasah'.
Assessment & Evaluation
20 madrasah assessors from CoEJ were trained in January on the new methodology which answers these five fundamental questions:
a. Is the Madrasah caring?
b. Is the Madrasah responsive to the needs of the students, teachers and parents?
c. Is the Madrasah effective in meeting the needs of the students, teachers
& parents?
d. Is the Madrasah well led?
e. Is the Madrasah safe?
Assessors in all other regions will inshAllah be trained on this in 2016.
Educare Online Programmes
The bespoke EduCare online programmes for madaris (Child Protection Awareness, Preventing Bullying Behaviour, Health & Safety and Fire Safety), together with the resources, were completed. This will ensure the safety of all of our children in Madrasah.
Visit to Kutch & Gujerat in India
In June/July 2015, Naushad Mehrali, head of MCE visited a number of madaris in Kutch and Gujerat and conducted some classes for children and training sessions for teachers. Two Madaris were identified, one in Mahuva and one in Bhavnagar, for piloting MCE programmes in 2016. The image below shows local Alims in Mahuva participating in a teacher training programme.
Alhamdullilah we have made great progress with our development plans in 2015 and we are very excited to continue this in 2016 inshAllah.
We encourage your feedback, comments, questions and suggestions on the work we have done to date. Please do not hesitate to contact Naushad Mehrali, the head of MCE, by emailing [email protected] or calling +44(0)20 8954 9881.
