Many men and women living in Pakistan’s northern province of Gilgit-Baltistan wish to marry, but for economic reasons, they cannot afford to do so. In a region where incomes are low and cultural expectations call for community participation in wedding day celebrations, many families simply cannot manage to save up for a wedding.
Muharram 1437 Ali Asghar Water Appeal: 31 water wells, 1 toilet block and 2 water projects under construction thanks to donors
Last Muharram, The World Federation launched the MUHARRAM 1437 ALI ASGHAR WATER APPEAL to build 40 water wells in 40 days in the deprived areas of Kenya and Syria. Thanks to the support of donors from across the world, the appeal raised enough funds to build the following water projects in both Kenya and Syria:
Kenya:
• 24 water wells
• 5 water wells with kitchen gardens and trees planted around the well
• 1 public toilet block
• 1 water tank replacement
• 1 water harvesting plant
Syria:
• 2 community water wells in Damascus
The water projects are under construction and already 5 wells in Kenya have been completed. Because the wells in Syria are much larger, they will take about one year to complete. The World Federation takes this opportunity to thank every donor whose generosity is bringing clean water to families in need.
