Essex Jamaat held its annual Interfaith Day on Saturday 7th March at Galleywood Heritage Centre, Chelmsford.
A delegation of The World Federation of KSIMC comprising of The World Federation Vice President Al-Hajj Munawer Rattansey, and supporter and donor Al-Hajj Muslim Khoja, visited the Shia community in Bosnia between 22 – 26 May 2013.
The community in Bosnia recently completed a building project of two flats, aimed at generating a rental income for the ongoing stability of the community. This was all possible through donations from The World Federation and its generous donors.
As part of their visit, they visited the towns of Konjic and Mostar where they met some of the local Shias. They also traveled to Srebrenica to visit the Memorial Centre that houses a graveyard of the 8000 Muslims killed during the 1995 massacre. They also paid a visit to a local Shia brother who survived the massacre.
The delegation participated in the Thursday evening mosque programme that has become a regular feature of the community. They were able to meet the members of the community, and Munawer bhai addressed them to enquire what further support the community required from The World Federation.
Munawer Rattansey met with the community
Munawer managed to establish a number of emerging needs, and has asked Abdullah Shabbar, manager of the community centre and its activities, to look into these together with the continued and on-going support from The World Federation:
1. To upgrade internet and media facilities
2. To commence English classes for the local population
3. To enhance services such as:
a. thought-provoking seminars
b. medical checks and surgeries
c. IT classes
Munawer stated: ‘It was another excellent experience to visit Bosnia and engage with the community. I feel the community is now reasonably well established with good infrastructure. It now needs to move to the next level which is greater financial stability and sustainable incomes. The World Federation has supported Bosnia for many years, and will continue to do so, together with pro-active efforts on the Bosnian side. I thank Muslim bhai Khoja and all the donors for their generosity in making this work possible.’
