Change A Life Every Day!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As 2014 comes to an end and we take stock of our affairs, it is a time to be grateful for all that Allah (SWT) has blessed us with and also a time to consider those who have been less fortunate than us.

Whether you want to end your year on a note of giving in gratitude or begin the new year in the spirit of sharing, The World Federation can help you reach those who need you most.  We have been assisting and uplifting communities around the world for almost 4 decades now and we hope to continue to do so for as long as there are people who require help.

To help you make a more informed decision on where you would like to send your gifts, we’ve put together a ‘A-Project-A-Day’ List of campaigns that could benefit from your support.  We chose each project so that it would remind us of the particular Imams associated with a particular day of the week. As you pay your respects to these holy personalities on their respective days, you can now make a commitment to help causes that they stood up for and strengthen your loyalty to their principles.

‘A-Project-A-Day’

1.    Saturday – Sponsor Our Seniors

The Prophet Muhammad (a) loved to spend time with the elderly. He advised us to respect and love them because of the wealth of experience and wisdom they possess.  Our elderly have spent their lives establishing the strong and solid community base we currently enjoy.  Now, it’s our turn to show our appreciation for all their efforts.  For only 10 GBP a month*, you can offer a needy senior the opportunity to have access to basic meals, decent clothes and medical care. You can make a one-time donation, or contribute monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annually.

*20 USD / 20 CAD

2.    Sunday – Hadith-e-Kisa Blanket Drive

Who doesn’t love to snuggle up under a warm blanket on a cold afternoon? For many, this isn’t a luxury, but a necessity! In the memory of Imam Ali (a) and the Lady of Light, Fatimah al-Zahra (a) - who was the pivot of the Tradition of the Cloak (Hadith-e-Kisa) - you can gift warm blankets and fuel supplies to those who live in regions with freezing temperatures but cannot afford heating.  The cost of one blanket can range from 13 USD to 25 USD.

3.    Monday – Ali Asghar Water Appeal

The name of al-Husayn (a) is synonymous with thirst and quenching the thirsty is a passionate aim of those who love him.  You can now remember Imam Hassan (a) and Imam Husayn (a) as you help provide easy access to clean water and adequate sanitation facilities to communities struggling with poverty. For information on sponsoring a well(s), please email [email protected]

4.    Tuesday – Fill My Cup Appeal

Who can match the gentleness of heart and generosity of Imam Zainul Abideen (a)?  In line with the tradition of both his ancestors and his descendants, he would feed the needy on a daily basis.  You can practice the sunnah of our 4th, 5th and 6th Imams on this day and donate to provide a hot, nutritious porridge breakfast to students in Kenya who come to school hungry each morning. Starting the day with a full stomach allows the children to stay healthy, increase their vitality and maximize their learning capabilities. The cost of providing a hot porridge breakfast to a child is only 2 GBP/ 3 USD-CAD per month!

5.    Wednesday - Khadija Economic Development Program

Wednesdays are associated with out 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th Imams - a period of time when the Shias were able to progress in terms of business and economic development.

The Khadija Economic Development Program is a microfinance program which provides interest-free loans to new and existing entrepreneurs with the goal of becoming self-sufficient and financially independent.  You can help a fellow brother or sister gain a means of earning a halal sustenance, and restore their dignity!

6.    Thursday – Emergency Relief Fund

The time of our 11th Imam was one of setting up for a temporary state of emergency amongst the followers of tashayyu. The transition between having an Imam present physically and shifting to the period of ghaybah (Occultation) required many things to be set in place for any eventuality in the reactions of the people to this new state of affairs.

When you donate to the Emergency Relief Fund, you give us the flexibility to spend on a range of emergency needs that arise throughout the year, wherever and whenever they may be.

7.    Friday – Greatest Need Fund

Our greatest current need as a spiritual community is for the Imam of our Time (atfs) to appear.  While we pray and ask for this to be fulfilled, we can grab the chance to fulfil the immediate needs of those who are lacking around the world.

Through this special fund you give us the ability to use the resources at our disposal to distribute your gift to causes that will generate the greatest impact at any given time.

You can read more about these campaigns on our Donations page. Whether you chose to dedicate A-Project-A-Day or pick one or a few of these campaigns, you can be confident that you WILL be changing a life somewhere for the better on any given day.  We look forward to working with you, insha’Allah!

May Allah (swt) reward your kindness.

In December 2013, the N2K Team, a group of youth from London (UK) walked from the Holy City of Najaf to the land of Karbala during Arbaeen 1435 to raise funds for The World Federation’s ‘Community Upliftment Project in Northeast Kenya’.

If one of our Shia goes for Imam Husayn (as)’s Ziyarat, then he will not return but all his sins will be forgiven. For every step that he or his mount takes, 1,000 virtues are written for him, 1,000 sins are forgiven and his status is elevated by a 1,000 degrees.' (Bihar al-Anwar, volume 101;  Kamil al-Ziyaraat)

If  you have been blessed with the opportunity to go to Iraq this Arba’een and are doing the walk from Najaf to  Karbala, why not help fundraise for the poor and needy at the same time?
