The Holy Prophet was born in a time where Arabia was a dark place, Mecca is narrated to have been a lifeless city, almost as if it was awaiting a saviour. By the grace of Allah, a boy was born, and the news of a very special boy quickly spread through the lands.
Following arabic tradition, through the order of his grandfather, the boy was brought up by Halima, a chosen nurse from the Bani Sa’d tribe. The first of many miracles witnessed after the birth of the prophet took place within the tribe of the nurse. She took the boy back to the lands of her tribe where she nursed him, however the tribe was going through hardship with tired lands and heavy poverty. However, to the surprise of the members within her tribe, following his arrival their luck turned around. It is narrated that pasture previously bone dry became green, animals who were frail became healthy and happiness overwhelmed all those within close proximity of the prophet of Allah. Through his childhood, his exponential growth rates, ability to speak and mannerisms were unseen in the lands of arabia, the prophets mere existence mesmerised the people. It was obvious that a blessed child was amidst them.
One of the famous stories narrated to us was that of Khadija, the businesswomen who was known primarily across arabia for being a very wealthy woman who would often pay wages to workers who would trade on her behalf. The famous “business proposal” that the prophet received from Khadija came at a time where the prophet’s family incurred some financial struggles, the proposal included a wage higher than others, a servant and property. Eventually The prophet married Khadija, and they remained married for 25 years and she bore him 7 children. 2 boys Qasim & Tahir who passed away at young ages in Makkah, and 4 daughters - Ruqiyah, Zaynab, Umm Kulsum and Fatima.
Fast forwarding through the life of the prophet, by the age of 40 the prophet was said to be at his prime and ready to embark on his “divine mission”. The following story narrated to us is set in the famous caves of Mount Hira, the prophet entered the cave one day, and he heard a voice commanding him to recite, it was the angel Gabriel, who went on to say
“Recite in the Name of Your Lord Who created. He created the human being from a clot. Recite and your Lord is Most Honourable, Who taught (to write) with the pen, taught the human being what he knew not' (95:1-5).”
The journey home from Mount Hira, we are told that the prophet felt engulfed by a divine spirit, his mood and aura had changed and this was noticed by his wife Khadija upon his return home. History teaches us that, Khadija, upon joining in holy matrimony with the Prophet, was approached by many different prominent christian figures at the time, and told of her husband who is believed to be a prophet of supreme status. Khadija was the first to accept the prophecy of the Prophet and thus the first woman of islam
The prophet spent years engaging in the secret propagation of islam due to the dark and hard-hearted nature of arabia. These corrupt inhabitants of the lands were too stuck in their polytheistic beliefs and love for idolatry to such an extent, that these conditions did not allow the prophet to combat these people’s views via the introduction of monotheistic teachings.
Many very important years followed after this divine revelation, The prophet embarked on a journey to spread the message of islam and the teachings of Allah, against the strong tide of idol worshipers and paganism. Through trials and tribulations, the unfaltering faith of the prophet in Allah allowed him to spread islam.
